Having grown up on the plains of Northern Colorado, I find myself drawn to the rich colors and textures of the surrounding landscape, as well as the varieties of flora and fauna found in the region. Breezes rustling through the prairie grass, a Meadowlark alighting on a fence post, Cabbage White butterflies that flit over smatterings of sunflowers - these are the backdrop of my inspiration. My work explores the connections between these natural visuals and formal elements such as shape, movement, and color. I am primarily interested in representing species and landscapes found in Colorado. However, I will depict other subjects if I find their formal components compelling. Exact scientific replication of a subject is not my goal, but rather to investigate the color, opacity, and general form of a subject. I am drawn to visuals that allow me opportunities to pair softer, ephemeral brushstrokes and subject matter with stable, sturdy components. I am particularly interested in how light quality and atmospheric conditions alter the appearance of the settings and subjects that I am painting.
